THE UNFERTILIZED LADIES
i stopped reading after college; &, with little exception, no writing.
i felt betrayed: by words & meaning & teachers & language
& parents &.... the whole kit’n kabootle had machiavellily
been layered on my sweet innocent consciousness. Rats!
i took about 15 years off the written word. self imposed syntax hiatus.
i’m a slow unlearner. gave my natural voice space to resurface--naked
in the great green forest of oregon.
after that these stories came--the 1980’s--and still, bespeak
clearly of my american lit degree. Who knew?
how out of chaos sound conjures up meaning. & yr eyes can hear it.
for several years THE SUN editor Sy Safransky & i were on the same
course (away from NY), same wavelength (communicating the new word),
resonance (of the 11 stories herein, he published five). AMONG THE UNFERTILIZED
LADIES was irresistible as a title...& you know why!
